The National Policy on Education (NPE) 1986 and allied Pogramme of Action (POA)
envisaged a third level (District level) institution to support academic functions
especially in academic planning teacher empowerment programmes in the District which
is more closer to the field than the National level institution like NCERT and NUEPA.
State level institution like SCERT or SIEMAT based on the national perspective of
DIETs, the context mission and roles detailed in chapter one. In Kerala DIETS were
started their functioning in 1989 ( in three districts namely Kasargod, Wayanad
and Thrissur) in the first phase and in 4 other District namely Kannur, Calicut,
Pathanamthitta and Emakulam in 1991 in the second phase and remaining 7 districts
were covered in 1992 in the third phase.DIET Malappuram is upgraded to this status
on 1992 and after the establishment onwards DIET Malappram has established its position
in the District
It located at B.P. Angadi , next to Govt. Girls Higher Secondary school which is
5 Km away from Tirur. The railway station Tirur and the main bus stand are also
located with the same distance away from DIET. DIET consists of 7.68 acres of land
with enough spare land for further expansion.
DIET as a district level academic institution has been contributing a lot in improving
the quality of elementary education in the Malappuram district during the past 17years
and achieved a remarkable position in the field of teacher education , research,
material development and support and extension works

CD library is also attached with the general library. There are more than 100 CDs
in the library

With all essential materials. Now it is working in old block with demonstration
facilities. The lab is indeed in need of further improvement.

of 10 systems , two printers, scanner, LCD

Edusat Hall

Well furnished hall with two way interactive video conferencing facilities are available.
This room consists of computer, video camera and one LCD. Most of the time district
level persons used to assemble here for this activity.

Work Experience Room
|
Work experience related activities are co-ordinated with the help of this room.
Certain essential items are available there. Need further expansion.

Psychology lab
|
Here certain psychological tools are arranged , it consists verbal and non verbal
test items with the demonstration tables.

Auditorium and lecture halls
|
DIET has an auditorium which can accommodate 500 persons at a time. Furnishing works
are yet to complete in it. DIET is having two newly constructed lecture halls but
the electrification works need to complete. DIET has eight lecture halls altogether.

One hostel with two wings. It can accommodate 80 persons at a time.
