LITERACY

During the literacy campaign the literacy rate of the district improved very much. The district won the first prize for the implementation of the literacy campaign in 1992. The literacy rate during 2001 census is 88.6 percentage. Male literacy is 91.46% and female is 86%. The literacy rate of the ST population is 75 percentage

Educational Districts

The district consists of three educational districts namely Wandoor, Malappuram and Tirur. Each educational district is lead by DEO( District Educational Officer)and all High Schools are managed by this structure

Educational sub Districts.

The Wandoor educational district is divided in to four educational sub districts . They are:

  • Wandoor
  • Nilambur
  • Areacode
  • Melattur

The Malappuram educational district consists of the following sub districts:

  • Malappuram.
  • Mankada
  • Perinthalmanna
  • Manjeri
  • Kondoty
  • kizhisseri

Tirur Educational District is divided in to seven sub districts. They are:

  • Tirur
  • Kuttippuram
  • Ponnani
  • Parappanagadi
  • Vengara
  • Edappal
  • Tanur

The Assistant Educational Officer is in charge of each educational sub district. All the educational activities in the district has been co.ordinated by the deputy Director Of Education ( DDE).

Sarva Siksa Abhiyan( SSA)

The SSA is launched in the district in continuation with the DPEP( District Primary Education Programme) and it is heading by the District Project Officer( DPO).He is assisted by the District Progamme Officers at district level and Block Programme Officers( BPOs) at Block level.

There are 15 BRCs in the district. The BRCs are:

Cluster Resource Centres( CRC)

There are 136 cluster resource centres ( CRC)in the district , which are included under 15 BRCs.
The CRCs are distributed in a logical manner in which one CRC is in each village and three CRC in each municipality.


Schools

Pre- Primary Schools

There are three types of pre primary schools in the district, namely Anganwadis ( run by social Welfare Dept.) Pre primary schools attached with general schools and the unrecognized nurseries. Altogether there are 2907 pre-primary schools in the district. Because of the support provided by the Local Self government , the condition of most of the pre- primary schools are now much better.

Special schools

There are 12 special schools running in the district to cater to the needs of the children with special abilities. All the institutions are run by the charitable societies in which four of them are aided by the government

Alternative and Innovative Education Centres(AIE)

There are 47 AIE centres in Malappuram district which are located in the tribal and coastal belts. They are single teacher schools run under the financial and academic aids of SSA .

Students

Total enrollment in the year 2008-09 in I to IV is 299702. and in V to VIII is 314984.Drop out is now almost eradicated , the drop out free campaign also helped much in this regard.
